Kitty and Johnny Hit the Big 7-2
Country music’s most enduring couple, the legendary Kitty Wells and Johnny Wright, are celebrating their 72nd anniversary, Friday, Oct. 30.
Kitty married Johnny on Oct. 30, 1937, when she was only 18 years old. The two met in 1937 when Johnny was a member of the duo Johnnie & Jack while Kitty, know then by her real name, Muriel Deason, was performing on Nashville radio as part of the Deason Sisters. Johnny convinced her to join his show and change her name to Kitty Wells, taken from an old country folk tune. They toured together for several years and also starred in their own syndicated country music television show. Kitty was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1976.

To the greatest country music queen ever! Listened to your records from way back and bought your albums and sang along with you everyday as I just loved your singing. Got where I knew every song on that album off by heart. You truly have been an insperation to all the great ladies that followed after you.
