Some artists insist on keeping the nitty-gritty of their songwriting hidden well away from the public, but Jewel is quite the opposite—she has always made a practice of playing unrecorded songs in concert and allowing fans to share in the development of her creative process. Lately she has even been posting brand-new songs for her fans to examine and critique at her official website.
On Oct. 1, she posted the words to a song written with Nashville tunesmith Dave Berg, “What You Are,” and four days later she shared a homemade video of herself performing it acoustically. During the same period she posted lyrics to more new songs, including “You Lied” and “Winter of Love,” and even discussed a few of the stories behind them. JEWEL, THAT WAS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS I HAVE EVER HEARD YOU SING. IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE SOMEBODY INSTEAD OF A 55 YEAR OLD NOBODY. YOU ARE TRULY GIFTED WITH THE SONGS YOU WRITE. WHEN THEY TOUCH A PERSONS HEART LIKE THAT IT IS VERY MAGICAL. KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU DO BEST.
